Rechargeable CR2016 Batteries? (From Greg)
Greg has found information on the web about rechargeable CR2016 batteries that could be available in the future . . .
"Rechargable lithium manganese CR2016-type button cells have recently been developed. So far these are only for use by manufacturers to permanently install into their products. . ."
See the Batteries section on Greg's REX site for more info. Greg also has a detailed process for importing photos to your REX - he has an example on his web site and it displays surprisingly well! Take your kids/car/true love on the road with you!
REX Memo reader add-in on the way. (From Di)
"I am finishing BookView (memo viewer). In 2-3 weeks V0.1 going to be ready. It does search string in a file and through all files. I didn't have enough time to spend on a project. Sorry about delay. It going to be fast and cute."

REX screen protection at bargain prices. (From Greg)
"I was appalled to see screen protectors being sold for $25.00. All I wanted was a piece of plastic to cover my PDA's screen, and these companies wanted me to shell out this kind of money! Well, I found a really cheap alternative that works really well - vinyl! Clear vinyl sheets are crystal clear, and won't distort or haze your PDA's screen. The material has a really smooth surface over which the stylus glides. Tapping the surface has a nice, "soft" feel to it."
For more on vinyl protectors and other REX information, see Greg's new REX site at: http://gregsearle.tripod.com/rex.html.
Updated Sokoban game - 50 levels and Add-in Development Tools! (From Shai)
"I have an improved version of the sokoban game with 50 levels now in my site http://www.geocities.com/shai_seger.
Also I have added some REX developer tools to my site for those who are interested. During coding for REX I have developped some tools to help with the programing. I wish to share them with others, I hope it might help. Compiling under BorlandC 3.1 IDE environment."
Shai also has a bitmap conversion program!
"Converting Bitmaps. The convbmp utility is a small program to convert windows bitmaps into rex images. It accepts at its command line a list of files representing windows bitmaps (only 2 color B/W bitmaps will work). It then produces on the standart output a small code that repesent a REX image. This code can be redirected into a file."
Nice work Shai!
Memo browser add-in coming to a REX near you soon! (From Di)
"I am finishing BookView (memo viewer). In 2-3 weeks V0.1 going to be ready. It does search string in a file and through all files. I didn't have enough time to spend on a project. Sorry about delay. It going to be fast and cute."

Asteroids on the REX!?! (From Daniel)
"Hi all, I have released an early beta of an asteroids game. It is not very useful yet, but I cannot add any more features for now because the addin is already 8Kb large. Daniel http://www.geocities.com/dmps82."
A pretty cool start for those of us who remember the glory days of Asteroids. . . the greatest game (of it's time <g>).
REX 6000 in Rotterdam (From Ramon)
" Hi, I just bought a REX 6000 with a serial cradle for 296,= Dutch Guilders at "Correct" in Rotterdam. Minor point is it is an 1 Mb version."
The REX 6000 is available in 1 MB and 2 MB versions outside the US - at least we haven't heard of any 1 MB REX 6000s sold in the US. For buyers outside the US it's probably a good idea to confirm which version you are getting before purchasing, especially if the price seems "too good."
Batteries in Singapore for cheap! (From Brainstorm)
"REX Battery at S$1 per pcs. (US$0.55) Yes, for all REX users at Singapore, I have come across this shop at Marine Parade (outside Parkway) that sells SONY CR2016 Lithium battery at $1 per pcs!! Hoorray!! No min. purchase required, 1pcs also can. (They also selling other smaller button cell eg LR4x etc, at S$1 for 2pcs!) Check it out. :-)"
The REX FAQ has a section on battery issues, and it lists the Sony batteries at 85 mAH, near the top (90 mAH) in capacity.
REXKeys update (From Paul)
"Thanks to Henrik Edlund who found a bug in REXKEYS. If somebody assigned a character to the "E" key, it was assigned to the "4" key. This concerned to all three soft keyboards.... Anyway, I fixed that bug in the new version 1.2."
You can find REXKeys on Paul's REX site..
That would be a cool add-in . . . (From Waleed)
"I hope to return to my REX C soon - I was working on a teeny weeny chess !! (yes CHESS!) for the REX but stopped temoraryly!"

Updating your REX World Clock - step-by-step help! (From Hernan)
"I was following Helge's and yours mails about world clock. For myself and for others, I thought it will be a good idea to setup a very basic and standard procedure for dummies. Basically I merged your CSV file and Helge discoveries and "subtracted" the cities that are factory included. Follows the result I came up with...
Thanks to Helge Böhme, who discover this procedure, and to Dana White's worksheet with world data, I built a file that can add new towns into Rex world clock without intialize it."
To recognize those truly responsible for the work leading up to Helge and Hernan's - thanks to Preston for creating the CSV file from Bill's original list. See all the details (and download the worldclock.rex file) here on our New User Setup page. Excellent work, Hernan!
REX purchase options. (From Lemay & Marc)
"Hello! I just purchased my REX 6000, It's a great little PDA. Just to let you know I bought it online from JandR Music in NY. They list it for $99.00 with the serial cradle however when I called to order and mentioned that Ecost was selling the REX for $89.00 they immediately matched the price without even checking. I ordered from Canada and was promised 2 day air shipping for a nominal fee and was pleasantly surprised when it arrived in 2 days as promised."
"In Switzerland you can get it at http://www.uhu.ch cheers!"
Update to REXDK available. (From Daniel)
"Hi all, I have updated my website at http://www.geocities.com/dmps82 with a new release of the rexdk and a page with the memo database field descriptions. Is anybody currently working on an ebook reader addin?"

New "Digest" mode added to REX Developer and REX User mailing lists! (From Henrik)
In addition to moving to a new host (www.rex6000.org) the Developer and User mailing lists are now available in both individual message mode (each email from list members arrives individually in your inbox) or digest mode (one daily email combines any messages from list members on that day). It's easy to change your configuration:
"In order to receive the Developer list messages as a daily digest instead of one by one, after being subscribed, send "set digest" (without quotes) in the body of a message to [email protected].
In order to receive the User list messages as a daily digest instead of one by one, after being subscribed, send "set digest" (without quotes) in the body of a message to [email protected]."

Currency converter add-in released! (From Bertus)
Probably one of the most frequently requested add-ins is now available from Bertus, author of four other REX add-ins.
"I released a currency converter addin: Rexchange. Because of the many requests for this addin I decided to translate the Dataslim2 Xchangelator addin. I know someone's working on a better currency converter, but this will have to do in the meantime. With another one on its way, I'm not planning to enhance this addin.
It reads currency ratios from a memo in the Rex, which may be edited on the Rex itself to the user's needs, to reflect new currencies or to adjust rates.
Download it from: http://www.geocities.com/bertusrex6k/rex.html."
Update to Rexpense released. (From Bertus)
"Uploaded a minor update of Rexpense from 1.0 to 1.01 (just cosmetic fixes, nothing important)."
Swedish keyboard template developed for REXKeys! (From Henrik)
"I borrowed a Windows computer and ran the excellent REXKEYS program. Seems German quality engineering still kicks ass. The .HEX file has been sent to Paul Lenz for inclusion on his REXKEYS page. Three photos of the keyboard layout has been included as well.
I tried to make the keyboard resemble the Swedish as much as possible. The misc page is used for the keys that are produced via Alt Graph normally. As the REX keyboard is too small I had to skip a few keys and move some in order to to make it all fit. There are still empty positions on the misc page in case someone want to add more special characters."
New REX web site for Poles. (From Bartman)
"Hello. There is another rex site in Polish (for now only in Polish, except directory ;-) ) http://www.rex6000.net/."
Bartman's site currently includes a Polish REX discussion forum and some REX links.
REX 6000 Availability update. (From MJ)
"E-cost, PCMall, and MacMall (same company as PCMall?) are the only ones that claim to have it in stock. ...several other companies (even Amazon) all say 'limited availability,' 'see webpage,' or 'call.'"

MS Outlook for $30?!? No! Yes!! (From Don)
"...I've had older models of Rex and am very impressed with the 6K. Had a terrible time with both the Psion Revo and the Rex because didnt want to spend $100 plus dollars to get Outlook. Discovered that you can get Outlook 98 or 2000 for a reasonable price by getting the book"Step by Step, MS Outlook" available most large bookstores and it includes outlook disk for total price of $30. Thats right. Got mine at Barnes and Noble locally.
Another note. Couldn't get my new 6k to sync with the news area on the Rex site. Spent several days trying and talked to Company (very helpful techs). Read in your pages about new version of IE might help. Had what I thought was the latest version but downloaded latest one from MS page and a modern day miracle. Rex synced effortlessly. Be sure to download the latest IE even if you think you got it last week. Thanks everyone, especially those of you who are making programs for us."

Czech localization template should be available soon for REXKeys! (From Filip)
"Hi guys ! At first - thanks a lot lot for your work you've done for REX !
The last thing: rexkey - is the greatest thing ever done ! Today I've done the Czech localization for REX. It understands quite well Czech letters and it has Czech keyboard. . . I know we are not a very big country, but there are lot of REX users here. . . Just one great thanks for your work."
Thanks, Filip, for forwarding on your work. Keep an eye on Pauls site for the Czech template download!
REX News on hiatus!
REX News will not be updated for a several days - we're undergoing a major computer repair/upgrade, and will be off-line from August 2nd - 6th, when the new and improved box returns from the shop. Thanks for your patience - see you again early next week!
REXKeys 1.1 released along w/Russian teamplate! (From Paul, who says "Never trust a *.0 version :-)")
"Some people did not read the manual and started REXKEYS without the REX.BIN file. This lead to a corrupt firmware file. REXKEYS checks now if REX.BIN is already there.
All templates had a mistake because my template creating program did not include the keyboard assignments. Shame on me!
I excluded the templates from the REXKEYS package, they are now directly available from my home page www.lenz-online.de/rex6000. The latest template: Russian characters!
I still need your help! I would be very glad if somebody corrects my English translations."
Thanks, Paul, for the rapid update, and for such a fine program. See Pauls site for the downloads.
