REX Vendors
With Intel announcing that they are discontinuing the REX, the number of vendors carrying the REX has shrunk significantly. The vendors listed below may or may not still carry the REX, but every effort is made to keep the list up to date. Most of the information below came from other REX owners - if you have information on a vendor that isn't listed (particulary for outside the US) let me know!
We have vendors for both the REX 6000 and the REX 5000 below.
United States - The UK - Canada - Germany - Switzerland - Israel
The Netherlands - Belgium - Australia - Sweden - Italy - Singapore
Xircom is no longer selling the REX direct from their eCommerce web site.
REX 6000 shopping experience. (From TeeJay, July 2002)
"I recently bought a new Rex 6000 to replace a broken Rex 3000 and though I would share the information I collected about availability and prices.
Sadly, some of the U.S. outlets listed on the Rex6000.org site no longer appear to sell the Rex 6000. I found only three online retail vendors which claim to have the Rex 6000 in stock:
- MyPC21.com ($89.99)
- PCMall.com ($98.00)
- eCost.com ($98.99).
These packages all include the serial docking cradle. Prices are exclusive of shipping and any applicable tax. I have no experience with any of these vendors. The RCSeshop.com site is down for "maintenance," but you might try calling their Manhattan store at 212-949-6935 to see if they still stock the Rex 6000.
I ended up buying a new unit on eBay. There are two eBay sellers who have a supply of new, sealed Rex 6000s and post auctions on a regular basis. All include the serial docking cradle. The winning prices on new units during the period in which I was bidding ranged from $66.00 to $102.50. I paid $71.00 plus $15.00 shipping. You have to be patient in order to get the lowest price. If you don't want to wait, the eBay seller from whom I purchased (tessiedef) also makes the units available at a set "Buy-It-Now" price of $85.00 plus $12.50 shipping. I would post a direct link to the listing here, but I'm not sure that is allowed. I had no problems at all with this seller and received my Rex 6000 right away.
It seems that the best online prices on a new Rex 6000 including shipping are at MyPC21.com and on eBay. I assume that prices for used units on eBay should be lower than those for new units. I decided that having a sealed package was worth extra to me.
If you need a USB cradle, they are also available on eBay, but the lowest price I found online was at ComputerGeeks.com (only $4.25 plus shipping). Note that this does not include the USB cable which could run you $15.00 or so at Radio Shack. I happened to have a cable on hand, so I ordered a cradle from ComputerGeeks. They initially sent me a serial cradle by mistake but corrected the error quickly. If you do not have the right cable, you might be better off finding a USB cradle with cable included on eBay."
Got REX? With Intel ending production it might be time to stock up for those who want to keep REXing . . .
A quick search came up with these options for the REX 5001:
- RCSeshop - $79.
- Camera Club - $89.
- State Stree Direct Online - $99.
- Buy and More - $99
- eBay - various prices
And these for the REX 6000:
- RCSeshop - $99 (serial) and $119 (USB).
- eCost - 89.99 for USB
- My PC 21 - $92.99 (serial) and $109 (USB)
- Alan Computech - $112 (USB) Also seems to sell to the UK, maybe other European countries?
- Ubid - $99 (USB) as of 11:00 AM PST. 9 in stock. Auction closes in 2 hours!!
- eBay - various models/prices.
- http://store.yahoo.com/alan-fm/xirrexmicusb.html "I just ordered one last night and by this afternoon, I had received my shipping confirmation!. Talk about fast! They are selling for $112 for the USB version. When I ordered mine, there were 224 in stock. I just checked and they now have 219 left." (From Amy)
HardDriveOutlet.com "**Xircom REX-6000 Micro PDA for $85** - 12:31 pm Several readers spotted the Xircom REX-6000 Micro PDA at for $84.99. It's lowest price we've seen on this PDA, and a leather case is included, free." (From Peter, Nov 2, '01)
All of these sites claimed to have the REX in stock as of early September, 2001. It would be smart to actually call the retailers to make sure that they actually have the unit in stock before you order.
REX sales on eBay flourishing. (From MJ) <back to top>
"There are currently 28 REX 6000's and 18 REX PRO/5001s up for auction on eBay. Some new, some used. Over the past several weeks auctions have closed on 160+ REX 6000s, selling for as low as $50 and as high as $172 (Don't ask me to explain that one). The bulk seem to have sold in the $70-80 range.
In that same period, 100+ REX PRO/5001s went, all selling in the $30-55 range.
. . . there are lots out there and if you are patient and disciplined with your bids, you can surely pick up what you need at a fraction of retail."
REX prices on eBay falling a bit. (From Chris)
". . . the average sale prices of Rex 6000's on eBay has been creeping down. I finally bid on one yesterday - this one's not-quite-new-in-box, won it for $61 plus $8 shipping. The new-in-box Rex's are often going for $70 or less now."
(From Peter) "I am a UK resident...and got my Rex a couple of weeks ago through http://www.amazon.co.uk. Type "Rex 6000" into the search engine and up comes a list in the Z-shops section.
The merchant is [email protected] and although they are based in the States I got the machine in my hand within a week. (One thing don't expect a shipping acknowledgement) At last count they had 17 in stock
Cost $83 (Serial cradle)
International Shipping $25
THAT IS A TOTAL OF £74 - BARGAIN!"
Unfortunately for us here in the UK most of the USA stores listed will not supply to Europe/UK apart from one. Alan Computech International. I purchased my Rex from them for £114 approx. (this includes all tax and 2 day express postage to the UK). At the time of ordering they had 15 (now 14) in stock
£99 (USB) or £89 (Serial) from www.dabs.co.uk. (Thanks, Peter.)
This link (http://ecom.aebc.com/ae/dept.asp?dept_id=2241) will take you directly to the REX 6000 page on the Canadian aebc.com site. (From Matt)
I came across this ad for the Rex 5001 at futureshop.ca
Its currently going for $79 CDN. This is a SALE price. Regular price is $119 CDN.
I thought you may want a Canadian store to add to your vendor list . I myself have just purchased a new Rex 6000 through ebay for $79US (From Jeff)
Available in Germany from www.computeruniverse.net. (Thanks, avmantillo.)

REX Source in Germany back in stock. (From Oliver - 10/30/01)
"Hello it's me again! I wanted to inform you also that www.axxess-berlin.de has the serial version. but only 4! For the price of 298.- DM + pp. All the best from Germany!"
Access is reported sold out as of 11/9/01. They may get more stock in the future . . .
Remember, the serial version is more likely to work smoothly with Windows XP, unlike the USB cradle.
"In Switzerland you can get it at http://www.uhu.ch cheers!" (Thanks, Marc.)
REX to Israel via Australia! (From Pavel)

...Rex 6000's can be bought at www.pdashop.nl for Fl 330,56 (or ? 150,00 / $134,01). Quite expensive compared to the US, but hey who cares :)"

"FYI, Just picked up a REX6000 for $269 [Australian dollars!] at "Harris Computing" in Sydney, Australia. Alternately, www.pcauction.com.au does a good line in auctioning (new) ones off, but at the moment Harris was cheaper." (From Brett)
New web site with better REX 6000 pricing for Australians. (From Craig) "I've put a small Rex website to keep all my stuff together. Please have a look and let me know what I can do with it. If you want to add programs or links to it just put the details in the forms."
Most notable for Australian REX users (current and potential) is that Craig is selling the REX 6000 for AU$245 (+10% GST and $20 shipping). That's better than some other known options for Aussies at this point. (Let us know if you have other options that aren't listed on our Internet Resources page in the REX Vendor section!)
"For purchasing Rex in Australia contact CX computers in Sydney - www.cx.com.au. They sold me the Rex, including the USB cradle, for AUD$280, plus AUD$20 delivery to the other side of the country." (Paul)
"Rex6k is available at Calculator King in Australia for AU$299. Cradle sold seperately for AU$99. All this is about the same as US$189. (Jur)
"I had success buying my (new) Rex 6000 from the auction site http://www.sold.com.au I paid $A244 including delivery. There are quite a few being offered on this site every day. Good Luck!" (Chris)
From David:
"Bought my Rex 6000 at Siba last week. Apparently, there are none left in Stockholm or Göteborg or in their web shop. But some local stores still have it, and you can find their phone nos. on http://www.siba.se/. Beware that it's listed as "Rax 600", two errors in one name. [!!]
I got mine for 795 kr (US$75) with USB cradle. From the looks of it, they are still available at www.dustin.se, but at the old, pre-discontinuation, price."
Jonatan has found a retail store source for the REX 6000 in Sweden (Oct 31, 2001):
"I just bought my rex 6000 (USB) in a store in Sweden for 499, swedish money (aprox. 45-50 USD at the moment). The store is named Computer City and they have several stores around the country. I've had it for 2 days and love it allready. And yes, it is new. And no, it isn't damaaged in any way."
Fabrizio has uncovered an Italian REX 6000 source:
"I've found some REX6000 in Italy in the cash&carry chain called CDC (www.cdcpoint.it). I've buyed six (for my and my friends!), but it seems they still have some. They also sell REX3000 at $2 !!!"
Antonio has found a source for the REX 6000 in Italy (November 11, 2001)
"Just to say that in Italy you can find Rex 6K on www.puntoinformatico.it for about 90 euros The device is the 1 MB one."
Isabella (March 11, 2002)
"I am finally a proud owner of a Rex6000. I just returned from Singapore March 3rd, 2002 and found Rex6000 at the Funan IT Mall (top floor, I think the store is called Challenger), they still have 3 left retailing at S$120 (US$67), which includes the USB cradle and leather case. I also saw 2 at the Changi Airport Duty Free retailing at S$116 at Weitnauer - same deal. Regarding Hong Kong, I went to both of the big IT malls there no Rexes to be found there."
Anonymous:
"I just had a stopover in Singapore and found that the Electronics shops at Changi Airport (they're all owned bei Weitnauer Electronics) have at least 20 REX6000s in total for around 200 Singapore Dollars.
Sascha, December 4, 2001
Just thought that someone from that area may be interested. I don't know if they can ship them to customers."
Paul
"...As for the availability of the Rex 6000 in Singapore, there are piles of them sitting around here. They're not as popular here as Palm, Handspring, Sony, Compaq, and and all the other PDA manufacturers have captured the market. If you're transitioning in Singapore, your best bet would be to go to a place called Sim Lim Square and hunt around. At the prevailing exchange rate, you'll probably be getting them for about US$105 to US$110 from many of the laptop shops around there. Maybe even lesser if you're lucky."
