Additional Information: Date Revised: May 16, 2001
Title: Installing the REX 6000 Driver (Version 1.01)
Resolution:
==================================================================
A) What's New in this Release? <back to top>
==================================================================
This new software provides the following:
- Sync Times have been improved, especially through the PC Card slot.
- Simplified/automatic configuration of the Intellisync for Rex software has
been added (current Rex 6000 software must be uninstalled first).
- Windows Me support has been added. Some manual configuration is required.
Note: This software replaces the Rex 6000 software that resides on the PC and does not change to the software/firmware on the Rex 6000 device itself. No updating of the software/firmware on the Rex 6000 device is required - everyone should have the same firmware version, 1.1.2.7. You can confirm this on your REX 6000 device by pressing the Home (house)key, then tapping Main, then Controls, then About.
Operating System Support:
The Rex 6000 now supports Windows 98, Windows Me and Windows 2000. All three operating systems support synchronization via the PC Card slot, serial cradle and USB cradle. Other Operating Systems are not supported.
Personal Information Manager (PIM) Support:
The Rex 6000 currently supports synchronization with the following personal information managers (PIM): Microsoft Outlook 97, 98 and 2000 (not included with the REX 6000) and Intellisync Mobile Desktop (included with the REX 6000. Other PIMs are not supported.
==================================================================
B) Am I already running version 1.01 of the REX 6000 Driver? <back to top>
==================================================================
Check the version of REX 6000 software you are running, as follows:
Insert your REX6000 into the PC card slot or Cradle. On your Desktop, click Start, point to Programs, then REX 6000, and click Intellisync for REX. Now click Help, then About and you'll see the version. If the version reported is less than 1,0,0,22, then you are not running the latest version and you need to upgrade. If the version reported is 1,0,0,22 then you already have the latest driver set, version 1.01. If you already have version driver set 1.01, but did not follow the detailed installation instructions in this document, you may want to uninstall and reinstall version 1.01 again per these instructions.
==================================================================
C) Uninstall the Previous REX 6000 Driver Set (version 1.00) <back to top>
==================================================================
If you are currently running the REX 6000 driver set version 1.00, then you
must first uninstall that software before you install the new version.
1. Perform a sync between your REX and your PIM to update your latest changes.
2. Remove your REX from the PC-Card slot, USB Docking Station or Serial Docking Station.
IMPORTANT! STEP 3 IS CRITICAL TO ASSURING A CLEAN INSTALL!
3. If you are using the USB Docking Station, UNPLUG THE CABLE!
IMPORTANT! If you are using Intellisync Mobile Desktop (IMD) you will need to back up your data files to an alternate directory. See step 4 for details.
If Intellisync for REX, REX Tools, or Intellisync Mobile Desktop is running, make sure you exit the program(s) before proceeding with Step 4.
4. From the Windows Desktop, click Start, point to Programs and click Windows Explorer. In the Address window, browse to the C:\Program Files\REX6000\PIM\Data folder. Back up any files or folders found in this directory.
IMPORTANT: You are only backing up the "DATA" folder along with the sub-folders found within the "DATA" folder (for example, C:\Program Files\REX6000\PIM\Data\Default). This is a very critical step in preserving your Intellisync Mobile Desktop database(s).
5. From the Windows Desktop, double-click My Computer, then double-click Control Panel.
6. In the Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
You will see this listing:
* Xircom Rex 6000 Drivers and Online Documents
* Xircom Rex 6000 Tools
* Xircom Rex 6000, Intellisync for Rex
* Xircom Rex 6000, PIM for Rex
IMPORTANT! If you are using the USB Docking Station, you will also see this listing:
* Xircom USB to Serial Rex Cradle <-- PLEASE REMOVE THIS FIRST!
You may also see this entry on some systems:
* Xircom USB to Serial Converter <-- PLEASE REMOVE THIS SECOND!
First, remove the 'Xircom USB to Serial Rex Cradle'. As soon as you click Remove, a confirmation dialog box will appear showing:
Xircom USB to Serial REX Cradle driver and installation files
-and-
Xircom USB to Serial REX Cradle configuration data
Make sure BOTH ARE SELECTED, then select OK or Uninstall.
Note: Sometimes the Add/Remove Programs application will close in between removing programs. If this occurs, simply double-click Add/Remove Programs again.
Second, remove the 'Xircom USB to Serial Converter' in the same manner, if listed.
Now, click on each of the other Xircom REX 6000 items listed and remove those as well. Click Finish or Done when prompted, and then click OK.
When all Xircom REX 6000 entries have been removed, click OK again to close the Add/Remove Programs window.
IMPORTANT! Choose NO when asked to restart your system.
IMPORTANT! STEP 7 IS CRITICAL TO ASSURING A CLEAN INSTALL!
7. From the Windows Desktop, click Start, point to Programs, click Windows Explorer and delete the C:\Program Files\REX6000 folder.

After you've selected your PIM, click Copy Files.
You will see the message "REX 6000 Setup Complete". Select Finish, then Exit. This will close the REX 6000 installer.

If you are using the USB Docking Station, please continue to the next section ("E" or "F") applicable to your operating system. If you are using the PC Card slot in Windows Millennium, please continue with section "G" below for special installation instructions.

Please review the README file for any pertinent last minute information.
Supplemental Information for Configuring Contacts in Intellisync for REX:
TIP: Intellisync for REX will install (Auto-Map) a default configuration for you. If you are using Outlook, this configuration will include the default Contact folder in Outlook. If you would like to map more than the default Contact folder, here's how:
In Intellisync for REX choose:
1. Configure
2. Choose Contacts
3. Choose Browse
4. Choose Browse again
5. Expand your personal folders to view contacts (or other address books). Click Add to the right (you can select Add Sub-folders to save time too).
In the bottom box you will see the folders you have selected.
NOTE: If you use category settings in Outlook, the REX 6000 will understand the categories and you will be able to sort by them. The REX 6000 does not sort by "folder" names. If you do not use categories in Outlook, all of your contacts will only be listed under ALL CONTACTS on the REX 6000
