Put the REX in the bottom half so the side w/the steel plate is covering the screen when it's closed.

A classy "custom" REX case idea <back to top>

"I have solved my case problem for the Rex 6000: I found a very light weight (aluminum?) card case and lined it with moleskin (available in drug stores),including a narrow stip along the inside lower edge. It holds the Rex and a stylus from a Visor, minus the screw-off top, which I replaced with a small screw so it would fit. Here are 3 photos of the case, the lining and the Rex, cozily resting with its stylus."

"I thought I would have to pad the inside of the cover, but it holds the Rex very lightly but firmly and it does not move around at all. The stylus lives under the Rex, in the little rounded lower edge of the case. I use this one because it matches the Rex perfectly and is much better looking than the plastic one that came with the Rex! As to strength, I would certainly not sit on it or carry it in a back pocket, but it seems quite strong and I have no concerns about it in a purse, belt pack, etc. and it would look pretty snazzy in a shirt/jacket pocket... Incidently, moleskin has a peel-off backing and sticks to the case. I only peeled the edges, in case I want to remove it in the future. Too bad it only comes in a pale pink...! :->" Linda.

A nice case discovered by chance in a store by AntMelNat.

"The case is brushed aluminum with a locking clasp, hinged on the narrow side and is sturdy and light weight. This case has a low profile and is very attractive. It is about equal in length to a jewel case but about 1/8" less in width and 1/16" less (about a nickel width) thick. I like the fact that it can be easily customized in a variety of ways to suit my needs. The case will hold about fifteen Post-it notes or five or six blank note cards or business cards along with my REX. Or it can hold a credit card or drivers license and two business cards and the REX. Since using this case my co-workers, who have seen my REX many times in the jewel case, all of the sudden take notice. I have been carrying this case in my shirt pocket or in a LOOSE FRONT pants pocket for over a month now without any damage to my REX. If anyone is interested in getting one of these cases, I can see if the shop I found it at has any more. You can contact me at [email protected].

Like several other REX users, I have been using the Fisher Bullet Space Pen with stylus tip. It is small, writes and works great. A side note, I have found that my Photon Micro Light, which is a tad bigger than a quarter and fits on my key ring, substitutes well for a lighted stylus for REXing after dark. It is available in most Outdoor/Sporting Good stores. I picked-up mine at REI. "

REX in your wallet - maybe not such a good idea! <back to top>

Some carry their REX in their wallets daily without problems. But be careful out there campers, things can go horribly, horribly wrong. From Mike:

"It seemed like a great idea at the time. I was easily able to slip my Rex into my wallet where the driver's licence usually goes. A thin plastic window protected the Rex screen, and I could still use the stylus without problems. After removing 4 unwanted plastic cards, my wallet was thinner than before, even with the Rex. I don't always have a shirt pocket for my Rex , and this seemed like a great solution. As the picture shows, it wasn't. On the second day of this routine, I went to use the Rex and found that the screen had been damaged (see photo), even though there was good protection on both sides of the device.

The good news is that I was easily able to get through to Rex customer service and a replacement is on the way with absolutely no hassle at all. Still love my Rex!"

Hard to read your schedule on that screen, eh? Looks like someone tried to use a iron spike for a stylus. Be careful out there campers!!

REX and Palm Vx and Compaq IPAQ <back to top>

Thanks to Amiram for the source photos for this "collage" of PDA's. That's a Compaq IPAQ at the bottom of the pile, then a Palm Vx, followed by a REX wallet case and finally a REX in the new plastic case on top. I've tried to align the bottom and left edges of each PDA as carefully as possible. (Here are the original images.)

From Steve Gray:

"I had a CellVic for several weeks earlier this year, but returned it for the reasons mentioned by Dana a few posts down. I would have kept it if it had synch'ed more easily with Outlook. I think the company really has some very promising technology, but may have been pushed to the market prematurely earlier this year.

I've not kept up with the product's development since then, but here are a few links to get you started:
