RexKeys 2.0 released! (From Paul)
One of the more significant and useful REX support programs has received a major update:
"RexKeys 2.0 is ready. The big bug of version 1.95 is fixed. :-)
RexKeys 2.0 is much more comfortable than the old version. There are separated template files for the characters and the keyboard layout. On my page you can have a look on screenshots of the original keyboard and 12 modified layouts including Greek and Russia.
I know the very first version did not work with DockPatch. I don't know about the next version, I heared about some difficulties. Today I tested RexKeys 2.0 with the "dockpatched" REX.BIN, and it worked without any problem.
Some people asked me if they can create a Thai, Hebrew or Arabic keyboard. I added some comments about this issue on my page."

Investigation of rechargeable CR2016 batteries continues (From Greg)
"I just shot off a message to Sundance Solar, and quickly received a reply:
Hi,
I noticed that error today and changed the pages for those batteries. You need a higher voltage to charge 3V batteries. I'll talk to my battery supplier about recharcheable button cells. Also, i'll see about a solution to charging higher voltage button cells.
Thanks,

Subject: Solar button cell charger, and other questionsHi! I have a few questions about button cells. I represent a growing group of REX 6000 PDA users. This PDA eats CR2016 button cells like candy. We are looking for a rechargable solution.
The solar button cell charger that you sell is made for 1.5V cells. I've seen it around on other sites, and they all say this. Your listing for CR2016 3V lithium cells states that the solar charger can be used to "trickle charge" this cell to boost its lifetime. Does this really work? How does a 1.5V charger charge a 3V cell?
Also, have you heard anything about Lithium Manganese or Vanadium Pentoxide Lithium rechargable button cells? Do you have these for sale in 2016, 2020, or 2025 sizes (preferable without tabs)? What about chargers for these cells, solar or not? Thank you for your time,"
Charger for the CR2016 rechargeables. (From Greg & AntMelNat)
"This is interesting:
It's a solar button-cell charger. It looks like the output is too low for 2016-types, though." (From Greg)
"The link below states the charger can be used with the 2016's.
'They can be "trickle charged" in our Solar button cell charger to get more life cycles out of the battery.'

More on the Maxell rechargeable CR2016 batteries (From Jorgen)
"The batteries must be charged at 2.5mA for 10 hours or until the voltage across the battery do not exeed 3.25V. I have not seen any charger available with specs like this. Anybody with a basic knowledge in electronics can charge the batteries. I have used a lab powersupply for charging but I'm considering designing a charger. However since my spare time seem to be limited for the moment, I have no time planned for this charger - maybe some evening I will design one instead of getting a nap in front of the TV. More info on REX leather wallets for sale (From Tubalips)
Some more information on the leather wallets for sale - see below for the original story on March 8:
"Regarding the REX leather cases found here:
http://www.compgeeks.com/details.asp?invtid=REX-WALLET
These sound like factory-seconds, from the full description (see bottom of the page). However, they describe them to be "Made of Fine Quality Faux Leather".
I was under the impression that the wallets were REAL leather! At least both of mine seem to be. If they are faux leather, then it is the best I have ever seen! Good price tho'!"
Rechargeable Maxell CR2016 batteries! (From Jørgen)
"Maxell has rechargeable 2016 batteries. The capacity is limited to 25mAH but the batteries can be used 1500 times !!! I found them at Farnell. The batteries are with mounted clips, but the clips can be gently pulled off without damaging the battery. The part no. is 303-1986 (danish catalogue) but the battery is Maxell ML2016."
Farnell is located at www.farnell.com.
REX available in Singapore. (From Isabella)
"I am finally a proud owner of a Rex6000. I just returned from Singapore March 3rd, 2002 and found Rex6000 at the Funan IT Mall (top floor, I think the store is called Challenger), they still have 3 left retailing at S$120 (US$67), which includes the USB cradle and leather case. I also saw 2 at the Changi Airport Duty Free retailing at S$116 at Weitnauer - same deal. Regarding Hong Kong, I went to both of the big IT malls there no Rexes to be found there."
Final Backgammon release (From Gerd)
"'Final' release of the backgammon addin:

Anonymous' bug is fixed. The back button works and you can double the stake. A few small things are not perfect, but I don't think I will change them."
REX leather wallets for sale - $3.95!
REX leather wallets (not normally available by themselves) are for sale here for ony $3.95. They appear to be the REX 6000 wallets that have the steel plate in them for added protection. The sales pitch is a work of art - the author should be writing for the J. Peterman catalog:
"Imagine yourself walking down the street, after setting a very important appointment in your Rex PDA. You decide that you desperately need to take a break after your harrowing day at work for a mocha. In you go to the coffee shop, you order your coffee, you sit down at a table to relax for a minute and you hear a *CRUNCH* from your back pocket. Unfortuantely, you didn't have your Rex stored in any protective case to prevent the fragile little screen from cracking and now it's broken! What are you going to do?...."
Almost final Backgammon released (From Gerd)
"New version of backgammon. It is quickly approaching a final state. Only minor rules are missing. Color scheme is enhanced. Bugs have been removed. Give it a try at:

New version (beta) of RexKeys (From Paul)
"Last summer I wrote RexKeys, a program to change the characters and the keyboard of the Rex6000. In that time I did not know any better language than QuickBASIC, that's why RexKeys was a DOS program. In the autumn I discovered Rapid-Q, a free compiler, easy to use and something between QuickBASIC and Visual Basic. I have much fun to write Windows applications, so I decided to re-write RexKeys.
The new version is 1.95 beta. All that template stuff is still missing, but you can explore all other functions and features. The new version will have different templates for characters and keyboard layout.
Unfortunately, the new version is much bigger, and file operations seem to be slower than before, but I guess what you get will surprise you. Comments, suggestions and bug reports are welcome!

Unit Converter add-in update released (From JDF)
"RE: Unit Converter UCREX VERSION 3.9d
IT APPEARS that I have solved the problems of UCRex not working for some people. I have sent it out to several testers who previously were unable to use UCREX because it would freeze their rex or cause re-boot of rex.
I have 4 responses now and all are totally pleased that the program now works on their REX and the text files are read, the conversions work, and the program exits. All of this without crashing your rex!!!
I have placed it on the web site as "UCREX54.ZIP".
If you have had problems in the past, download and give it a try!!
There are no new features. It is same as the previous text file versions.
(Note: This is still a 3.xxx version. A 4.0 is coming that will make it easier to switch between unit text files. Look for it 2 weeks from now!)"
Backgammon game updated (From Gerd)
"Backgammon screen bug is fixed. See earlier post for the link. Found one more non-compliance with rules and one more bug. Will work on it."
Two-player backgammon add-in preview available (From Gerd)
"For all Backgammon fans a preview of the upcoming 2-player addin:
Look for backgammon01.zip. It still has a very significant flaw on the rex (not on the emulator!!!). It does not clear the screen when starting. I am working on that. But apart from that it's playable. I will work on improved layout once everything else working. Read the readme for information and instructions. Comments, suggestions and bug reports (if anybody can see anything on the tiny screen ;-) are most welcome."
Developer news: New developer utility released. (From Daverex)
"Hi all! First of all I want to thank you all the excellent minds who have been contributing to this list and have given a huge push to REX development (libraries, enhaced compilers, farcalls, sample code, etc). I can't do other thing but sit and watch in amazement !!
While these geniuses work in how to use easily the database within the emulator, I want to contribute with a very little thing useful for beginers: An addin that writes a memo . Run it in the emulator previous to your addin (this one will find a memo ready to use in the emulator!!).
In addition I've created a simple VB program that will read any text file of your PC and will generate the C code for the above dummy addin. I have used it to develop my SunMoon addin and now I want to share it with all of you....
You can find them at this page:
I hope you find this useful !
