Where are the REX Discussions?? <back to top>

There are several hot spots to talk REX on the Internet. If you know of others, let us know!!

1. REX Forum

Set up in April of 2003, this board was provided by Todd for use by REXers everywhere. Threaded, sorted by subject, and very responsive. Also new, so head on over and take a look.

2. The REX Zone - SORRY, this forum is no longer active.

"This old board has been looking for it's purpose in life. :)"

Words that announce the opening of a new REX discussion web board. There have been multiple emails from REX users recommending this forum as a new home for REX discussion on the web, and it does look good. The REX Zone is free of ads, provides message threading, search capability, and discussion categories - features we all wished that RRC offered!

Check it out! And thanks to Dave for providing a forum for REX discussion.

3. REX Rumor Central: (the grandad of them all) SORRY, this forum is no longer active.

REX Rumor Central. Part of the "Linkmagnet" REX site, a mysterious (as in, why would anyone do this for free for so long?!) web site set up when the REX 3 came out in 1997. Most of the information has stayed in stasis and covers the REX 3, which was the first model release, with a slow processor and only 256K of memory. (The REX 3 did the job at the time, however - I bought one!). Much of the information is applicable only to the since discontinued REX 3, and most of the links aren't so useful to REX 6000 users. However, the REX Rumor Central discussion forum is probably still the most active REX discussion site on the Internet.

Though open to discussion of all REX models, recently the REX 6000 has dominated. So check out REX Rumor Central.

One limitation - the site uses a simple scrolling discussion format - no threads (where messages on the same subject are grouped together.) So you have to read down the page looking for info that you are interested. They do archive old messages, and the "plain text" format makes it easy to search for key words on the archive pages.

4. REX mailing lists - one for developers, one for users. (Thanks, Henrik!)

Several people have been sharing ideas via email about developing REX add-ins, programs, a new web sync capability for REX users, etc. If you'd like to join the discussion, Henrik has set up a mailing list for current and potential REX developers:

"REX-6000-developers list: This open mailing list is intended for discussion between developers for the REX 6000. The list is not intended for general REX 6000 discussion. To subscribe to the list, send "subscribe" (without quotes) in the body of a message to [email protected]. You will be required to send a confirmation email before your request is processed."

The REX Developer Mailing List has an message archive available. Go to:

http://www.lists.rex6000.org/ for list archive

For REX 6000 user discussions, Henrik created a second mailing list:

"REX-6000-users list: This open mailing list is intended for discussion between users of the REX 6000. To subscribe to the list, send "subscribe" (without quotes) in the body of a message to [email protected]. You will be required to send a confirmation email before your request is processed."

You can receive both these list in individual message mode (one email at a time) or digest mode (many messages combined in one daily email).

"In order to receive the Developer list messages as a daily digest instead of one by one, after being subscribed, send "set digest" (without quotes) in the body of a message to [email protected].

In order to receive the User list messages as a daily digest instead of one by one, after being subscribed, send "set digest" (without quotes) in the body of a message to [email protected]."

5. Greg Searle's REX site. A very full-featured site with lots of excellent information.

6. PDA Street REX Discussion, on the PDA Street site. This is a true threaded discussion group. This is the second-most active web discussion after the REX Rumor Central site.

7. The PDA Buzz REX Forum has been discontinued - just noticed as of June, 2002. .

PDA Buzz REX Discussion, on the PDA Buzz site. Another threaded discussion group with the most full-featured discussion software of all the REX discussion groups. The PDABuzz REX discussion group is generally pretty quiet, though it can "come alive" once in a while. It has the benefit of a "real" web-based threaded discussion software.

8. Yahoo Groups REX Group at http://www.onelist.com/archive/FreeREX . You can view this site w/out joining, but must join to post. This site is generally very quiet (three posts in August). Though very quiet, it does seem to have a higher percentage of developer types on it.

9. German REX forum I've just happened upon. http://www.db-server.de/rex-forum/. This site includes discussion on the REX 6000, and seems pretty active.

10. Additional active REX German forum "discovered." (From Mantillo)

"Just wanted to let you know that I have found a German REX forum:

http://www.palmtopmagazin.de/board/xircom_rex/"

11. German REX 6000 page. (From Juergen)

"D-REX - New german info-page for REX6000

I am a german REX-user! Because it is very difficult to find information about the rex in german, I have made a German info-page. It contains all nessesary info about hardware, software, firmware, addins, batteries and so on. German language only! Link: http://www.people.freenet.de/circuit/d-rex.htm

I hope it will help new users (like me a few weeks ago)! Comments are welcome!"

12. Spanish REX forum.

13. New REX web site for Poles. (From Bartman)

"Hello. There is another rex site in Polish (for now only in Polish, except directory;-)) http://www.rex6000.net/."

Bartman's site currently includes a Polish REX discussion forum and some REX links.

14. Yming's i-REX web site. A source for articles/help files on the REX.

That's all we know about now - let us know if you find folks lurking and talking elsewhere!

Some REX links for those with a yen to wander <back to top>

Thanks to Antmelnat for many of these - if you have more, let me know!

Looking for REX comics? (From Mantillo)
